Colour-and-weave
Houndstooth
A 2/2 twill carrying four dark then four light in both warp and weft; the twill drags the blocks into the broken check with the pointed teeth.
Houndstooth is a colour effect drawn in indigo warp over natural weft - woven in a single colour the same threads would read as a quiet 2/2 twill, and the whole figure comes from the order of dark and light.
