Changelog
Two feature releases a year, patches when something is wrong. Dates are release dates, not tag dates, and a patch is only published when it fixes something a weaver reported. Entries go back to 2.6; anything older is summarised at the bottom.
3.4
24 Sep 2026
- Colour-and-weave preview follows the warp palette during a drag instead of redrawing on mouse release. On a 600-end draft the repaint is 11 ms, so there was never a reason to defer it.
- Peg plan export writes the trailing blank pick again. It was dropped in 3.4.0 and at least four dobby interfaces treat it as the end marker.
- Two crashes in the undo stack after importing a 2048-pick draft, both from the same off-by-one in the ring buffer.
- Threading card: the end number no longer collides with the band rule at exactly 100 ends.
11 Aug 2026
- Borders are now their own units, pinned left and right, repeating independently of the body of the warp.
- Floating selvedge ends are drawn outside the reed plan and printed in their own column on the threading card.
- Library grew to 412 structures: eighteen lace entries, most of them sent in by weavers.
- Export dialogue prints the shaft convention in the preview header.
- Regression: the peg plan lost its trailing pick, fixed in 3.4.2 six weeks later. Sorry.
3.3
28 May 2026
- The solver no longer reports a shaft count one too high when the last end of a repeat is identical to the first.
- PBM import accepts files whose header has the width and height on separate lines.
- Undo depth restored to 400 steps; a refactor in 3.3.0 had quietly cut it to 50.
21 Apr 2026
- Threading solver rewritten around end grouping. A 24-shaft advancing twill that used to take four seconds now resolves in about 90 ms, and unsolvable ends are listed by number rather than reported as one failure.
- Sett check reads the reed plan and names the dent that is over-filled.
- Library at 394 structures with the honeycomb and waffle family finished.
- Linux tarball no longer requires a system icon theme to start.
3.2
15 Jan 2026
- Printing on A3 placed the second band 4 mm into the margin on long warps.
- SVG export wrote grid lines at 0.25 pt where the dialogue said 0.25 mm.
5 Nov 2025
- Printing rebuilt. Threading cards come out in bands of 100 ends, numbered along the top and the bottom edge, after a weaver sent us a photograph of a nine-sheet card with the numbers cut off at the fold.
- Line weights for PDF and SVG are specified in millimetres.
- Backup folder beside the file: a copy every ninety seconds if anything changed, ten kept.
- Float overlay bound to F8 and remembered per file.
3.1
30 Jul 2025
- Serial peg plan output sent 8‑N‑2 on one platform regardless of the setting.
- Colour run lists longer than 48 entries were truncated on save.
17 Jun 2025
- Builds for Linux on aarch64, for the single-board machines that sit under table looms.
- Colour sequences extended to 64 entries per warp and weft.
- Keyboard map editable in Preferences and printable on one page.
- Library at 356 structures.
3.0
11 Feb 2025
- Files written by 3.0.0 with a border unit could not be reopened by 3.0.0. Both halves of that are fixed; affected files are repaired on load.
- macOS build no longer asks for a folder permission it never used.
2 Oct 2024
- New file header
flxd/3, documented in full. Older files are read and converted on save; 2.x reads a 3.x file in part, keeping the structure and dropping the colour run lists. - Shaft and treadle maximum raised from 24 to 40.
- Colour-and-weave preview, with the warp and weft orders written as run lists.
- SVG and PDF export.
- Repeat limit raised to 2048 ends by 2048 picks.
2.6
9 Jul 2024
- Last release of the 2 series. Security fixes only after this date, which ended in October 2025 as promised.
- Tab-separated import no longer stops at the first empty column.
15 Apr 2024
- Float warnings with a configurable limit, boxed in the drawdown.
- Peg plan over a serial line at 9600 or 19200 baud.
- Library at 300 structures.
Before that
Three dates for the record. Version 1.0 was published on 14 March 2022: eight shafts, no peg plan output, a library of 46 structures and a file format nobody but us could read. Version 2.0 followed on 9 May 2023 with 24 shafts, printing worth the name, and the first interchange export. Everything between those and 2.6.0 is listed inside the program under Help → Release notes, where the entries are as terse as you would expect from two people shipping their first software.
How this is decided: a release goes out when a thing is finished, and the version number goes up by a minor when behaviour changes, by a patch when only a defect is removed. We have twice had to publish a patch within a fortnight of a feature release, and both are above with the regression named. The story of the studio itself is on the studio page.
