Bought once, and that is the end of it
There is no subscription, because a draft you made in 2022 should still open on a machine that has not seen the internet since. You pay once for the major version you are on; patches and minor releases inside it are free for as long as it exists.
The three ways in
| Kind | Price | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| Trial | free, 30 days | Every feature, but exports and printing are capped at 8 shafts |
| Licence | €74 | None. Full 40 shafts, all exports, all three platforms |
| Teaching | free | Students, weaving schools and guild workshops — ask and it is sent |
The price includes Belgian VAT for private buyers inside the EU. Outside the EU, or with a valid EU VAT number, the invoice is written without it and the figure drops to €61.
What the key covers
- Every 3.x release, including 3.4.2 and anything that follows it in the 3 series.
- All four builds. One key file works on the Windows, macOS and Linux versions at the same time, so a workshop machine and a laptop are not two purchases.
- Answers by mail from one of the two of us, with no time limit attached to the licence.
- The structure library and every entry added to it during the 3 series.
The licence is a file called licence.flxk that you drop beside the program. It is not checked over a network, not tied to your machine, and not counted: we ask that one human uses one key, and in five years that has been enough.
Fourteen days to change your mind, no reason needed, and we do not ask you to delete anything. Write to the same address you bought from and the money goes back the way it came.
When a major version changes
Major versions arrive roughly every two years — 1.0 in March 2022, 2.0 in May 2023, 3.0 in October 2024 — and each one costs €32 for people who already hold a key. That upgrade is never forced: the previous major keeps working, keeps opening its own files, and keeps getting security fixes for a year after its successor ships.
We also say in advance what a major version will cost you in work. The 3.0 file format, flxd/3, can be read by 2.x only in part: the structure comes across, the colour run lists do not. That is written on the formats page as well, because nobody should find it out during a deadline.
How to buy
Write to sales@flaxforge.app with the name the licence should carry and, for a company or a school, the billing details and VAT number. You get an invoice with a bank transfer line; when it clears, the key file comes back by mail, usually the same day and at worst the next working morning.
No shop, no card form, no account to create. For a two-person studio selling a few hundred licences a year, a bank transfer and an invoice are less machinery than a payment gateway, and nothing about your card has to pass through us. Schools that need a purchase order can say so in the first mail and we will match their format.
Teaching licences go to students@flaxforge.app. Say where you study or teach; a course page or a guild name is enough, and we have never refused one.
Questions we actually get
It shows the remaining days in the title bar and nowhere else. On day 31 exports stay capped at eight shafts; your files keep opening and nothing is deleted.
Yes, and several hundred people do. Copy the installer and the key file across on a stick. Nothing in the program dials out, so there is nothing to block.
€32 for the jump to 3.x. Your 2.x key keeps working on 2.6.2 for as long as you want to stay there.
One key per person who opens the program, not per loom. If that is five people in one room, write and ask — there is a flat price for four or more seats and it is less than four times €74.
There is no discount, there is a free licence. See the address above.
They are text files with a format documented inside the program and on this site, so any editor can read them. If we ever shut down, the last build is released without a key check; that promise has stood since 1.0 and we intend to keep it.
